L-O-V-E

Lately I have really been questioning the meaning behind the word love.

How is it that a simple four-letter word can have so many meanings behind it? How it is that this word is able to bring hope, joy, fear, anxiety, as well as many other emotions and feelings into its meaning? Why is it something we all yearn for. What is it about love that makes us weak at the knees, have butterflies in the stomach, and yet have the feeling of uncertainty and doubt within us?

And yet despite my pondering and my many questions, I still seem to know the answer. I will always know where to find the answer.

I've probably read this passage a million times in my life.... and surprisingly, each time I read it.... I learn something new.

I hope you do too.

1 Corinthians 13.

(1)If I speak in human and angelic tongues, but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
(2)And if I have the gift of prophecy, and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
(3)If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

(4)Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated,
(5)it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
(6)it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
(7)It bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

(8)Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
(9)For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
(10)but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
(11)When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside these childish things.
(12)At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully as I am fully known.
(13)So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

A friendly reminder.

Sometimes, when you feel as though you're so alone and your life is without purpose.... you realize things are that way because YOU are not making the conscious decision to do anything about it.

So go out there, and live YOUR life. Do what you want to do!!!!

I love this song.

Natalie:
We need some light.
First of all, we need some light.
You can't sit here in the dark.
And all alone, it's a sorry sight.
It's just you and me.
We'll live, you'll see.

Dan:
Night after night,
We'd sit and wait for the morning light.
But we've waited far too long,
For all that's wrong to be made right.

Diana:
Day after day,
Wishing all our cares away.
Trying to fight the things we feel,
But some hurts never heal.
Some ghost are never gone,
But we go on,
We still go on.

And you find some way to survive
And you find out you don't have to be happy at all,
To be happier alive.

Natalie:
Day after day,
Give me clouds, and rain and gray.
Give me pain, if that's what's real.

Henry and Natalie:
It's the price we pay to feel.

Dan and Diana:
The price of love is loss,

Dan:
But still we pay.

Dan and Henry:
We love anyway.

Gabe:
And when the night has finally gone.
And when we see the new day dawn.
We'll wonder how we wandered for so long, so blind.
The wasted world we thought we knew,
The light will make it look brand new.
So

All:
Let it
Let it
Let it
Let it
Let it
Shine, shine, shine.

Day after day (day after day),
We'll find the will to find our way.
Knowing that the darkest skies will someday see the sun.

Dan:
When our long night is done,

Dan and Natalie:
There will be light.

Diana:
(There will be light.
There will be light.)

All:
There will be light.
When we open up our light.
Sons and daughters, husbands, wives.
Can fight that fight.
There will be light.
There will be light.
There will be light.
There will be light.

A New Goal

So, I've decided I'm going to try something.

Whenever I hear inspiring words, whether they be from a song, the newspaper, the internet, etc. I'm going to write it on a post-it and stick it somewhere in my bedroom.

I just think I need to bring in more positiveness in my life, so hopefully this will help.

My first post it?

"Comprehension, not speed, is the key."

... this was actually in an article about reading and literacy, but I think it can apply to more than just reading.

I like to be random

Welcome back to the life of the normal??

So, over the Olympic break I went to New York for a week. It was amazing. It was stunning. And I want to go back.

Performing in the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics were a dream and it just seemed so surreal (I made a vlog on youtube if you're interested in knowing more... look at my blog post below)...

So now, back to the normal life. School. Bleh. And teaching.

I feel like I need something to keep me going. Usually I'm doing something for myself as well as the usual things.

Hmmm...

What to do....

Get another job??
Nah...

Audition for a show??
Nah...

WHAT WHAT WHAT!!

Random blog for you...

It seriously ALWAYS happens to me.

Okay, so throughout my life, it has been known that anything bad or frustrating that could happen, DOES happen to me.

Examples?

1. The day I was supposed to get my braces off, I was SUPER excited. So, I go to the orthodontist smiling away....
.... turns out I couldn't have my braces taken off, because I wore my elastics TOO much. She said she didn't expect me to wear them that much, and I was infuriated.

2. I broke my collarbone a week before having to leave for Disneyland to dance.

3. I get achilles tendonitis a week before the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

There are more "stories of my life", but I'm too bothered to write them

Well, time to rest and ice..... hopefully they are better by next week!

Can't buy ME love!

Okay. Can I just ask...

WHY has everything become SOOOO commercialized?!
Halloween, Christmas.... VALENTINES DAY!?

Okay, I'm not against V-day at all. In fact, I think it's a great way for a couple to re-establish their feelings for one another.

However, when I walk into a mall and see everything red and pink and fluffy, it disgusts me.
Why should "love" be based around gifts?!
Love is not and should not be about material things.

I would much rather spend an evening with my boyfriend than receive any gift from him...

I don't know. It just makes me sad how people think they can "buy" each other's love.

Oh, and another thing.
Since when is it okay to do something big and romantic for your loved one on only ONE day in a year!?

Haha. It sounds like I am totally bashing V-day. But I'm not.
These are just two things I always question whenever the holiday appears.

What are YOUR 2010 Resolutions?

Here are mine:

1. Rekindle my relationship with Christ.
2. Keep being active and lose 10 pounds by end of the semester! (April)
3. Stop biting nails!

For those of you who don't know (which I think is most of you), I started a "Gratitude Journal" back in October. A gratitude journal is basically writing things you are thankful for, or things you appreciate in life. I've found that this has helped me become overall a more optimistic person.

Anyway, my latest entry in that journal was that I was grateful for the beginning of a new year.
Just think - once a year you are able to start out "fresh", are able to set goals for yourself.

There's something about a new year that just makes it seem much more possible, don't ya think?

CFC = SUCCESS!

Wow.

Christmas for a Cause was a GREAT success this year!
On Saturday night, we raised about $760, for Union Gospel Mission.
On Sunday night, we raised about $1500, for First United Church.

WOW!!

I was just astonished on the amount of people that came to the Sunday night show. And I am soo grateful. I am so proud to have started something that actually impacts people's lives in more ways than one.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the show. I am eternally grateful.

The Wonders of Life.

I find life simply amazing and astonishing.

I find it amazing that at one point, your life can be calm and relaxing, and then the very next day, it seems like you have no time for anything. Or it seems like everything is happening at once.

An example? Yesterday was probably the most stressful/upsetting/crazy days I have had in a long time.

Let me start with the fact that school is at the end of semester.... Next Monday is my last class.

But is this freedom? Not at all. I have 3 papers due within 4 days of each other next week.
I thought one of these papers was completed, and all i would need to hand in would be a revision.

I was wrong.

Not only do I have to rewrite my entire paper, but it looks like I have to choose and research an entirely new subject. Within a week's time.

To make matters worse, the sound on my computer decided that it hates me and that it no longer wants to work. Yippee. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I have music on it that I need for two events in my life coming up - singing with my friend Josh at a Christmas Party, and my annual Christmas show, "Christmas for a Cause".

Sigh. So now I have many worries on my plate, and I just want it to be December 11th (the date my 3rd and last paper is due). One more week! One more week!

Anyways, this blog was not meant to be one of ranting, raging, or sympathy. It was just meant to show my amazement with life and its events.

But, seeing as I'm writing a blog when I should be reading Macbeth, I will quickly do a little advertisement for Christmas for a Cause (which is the exact same thing written on my Facebook event...)

Christmas for a Cause 2009
It's Christmas...for a cause.
Start Time:
Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 8:00pm
End Time:
Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 11:00pm
Location:
Eagle Ridge United Church
Street:
2813 Glen Drive
City/Town:
Coquitlam, BC
It's that time of year again! Christmas for a Cause in its 3rd year!
As you may (or may not) know this show is a fundraiser where all the proceeds are donated to Union Gospel Mission. This year we have decided to add a second show, where the proceeds raised will be donated to First United, an equally deserving recipient.

It is a night of Christmas entertainment including classic songs, modern songs, and a few songs flourished with our own twists.

The cast includes:

Amanda Assalone
Linnea Holm
Kim Bunka
Daniel Johnston
Timothy Johnston
Joel Ballard

The show dates are:

Dec. 19, 2009 at 8 pm (with proceeds donated to UGM)
Dec. 20, 2009 at 8 pm (with proceeds donated to First United)

Admission is by donation at the door with a suggested minimum donation of $10, but we would love for all of you to be there so whatever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

Come out for a night of fun and help us raise money for a great cause!

Hope you can make it to one of the nights.

Dear World

Dear World,

Hello. It surely has been quite awhile since I've actually "blogged".

I really don't remember what I've told you. I DO know I did a theatre survey my last blog and that Jamie gave me the Honest Scrap Award.....which I have not done.

Anywho, I'll kinda do a quite update on what's going on in my life and what's new.

1. Yes, I am back at SFU. Yes, I am hating it.
Why am I hating it?
1. I found out I cannot graduate in June.
2. I am not super passionate about my major.
3. I am scared for what the future holds.

2. On a better note, I am again teaching for Xtreme Theatre this year (the homeschool group I teach musical theatre for). We are doing Anne of Green Gab
les. Although I am fairly sick of the show itself, it's cool to be looking at it on the other side of the table - I've done the production three times as a performer, but this is my first time directing/choreographing. So that's cool.

This is currently my only job.

3. I am rehearsing for my own show at the moment, a familiar one to all:

I think it is time for another post. . .

And indeed, yes it IS time for Amanda to stop being lazy and actually update those who still read this about her crazy life!!

Welll.... firstly my daycamp job is DONE!! I just have to go to the school on Tuesday to clean up and then FINITO!! It was fun, but I'm not sure if I would do it again. We'll see.

I am no longer going to the Pink concert *tear tear* HOWEVER I am heading down to Seattle during my birthday weekend to go to a big thing they have there called Bumbershoot. There are a bunch of bands lined up and I'm excited because LENKA (whom I love) is performing as well! So that will be fun!

Also I am heading to Sorrento next weekend for my friends wedding.....which I am MCing btw. It shall be fun times!

Other than that there's nothing too exciting. Just getting ready for Joseph rehearsals and school (bleh).

There you go folks. A brief blog on my life atm.

All You Need is Love, Family, Theatre and Pink.

With some time to spare I decided it was time to update this once again!!

All my teaching theatre is officially DONE for the summer. It seems like it went by so fast, yet it feels like it took forever to finish. How does that work?

Now the main thing on my plate is working for Sunfest Summer Camp. We've been planning for a month and now (finally!) this Monday the camp starts. I'm excited, but also a little nervous. I guess I'm still unsure about a few things. Hopefully it all goes well and is a chill summer!

I have 3 major events to look forward to:

1. My friend Iain has asked me to perform at his mom's friends wedding. You know the scene from Love Actually when Kiera Knightly and her hubby are in the church and then suddenly "All you Need is Love" is sung by a choir and trumpets/flutes/trombones appear in the pews? That is what we're doing. It's going to be awesome! The bride is surprising the groom with it. And apparently it's like one of his favourite movies. It's this upcoming Saturday and I'm a little sick so hopefully my voice is fully healed by then.

2. As I mentioned before, my mom and dad's "50's" party. My grandma brought over the poodle skirt she made me yesterday and it just got me THAT much more excited. But now I realize I need to get my stuff together. I got a few people to perform (because my dad REALLY wanted me to)......so now I have to decide on one more song to sing and send out a rehearsal schedule. Yikes!

3. I'm not sure if I mentioned this in my last blog, but I'm going to see PINK in L.A. with some friends!! It happened SO randomly.....it came up in conversation and in less than 30 minutes we decided we were going, bought the tickets, and somewhat planned a road trip. Huh. I'm becoming quite spontanious.

In other news, I FINALLY GET TO PERFORM AGAIN!! I got into Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, which will be playing in November. More info to come :P

I think that's it........FOR NOW!!

My life - in list form.

Wow.  It has almost been a WHOLE MONTH since I have updated you all.  I apologize!!

Okay....let me think back to what I need to tell you!

Ok.  I will let you know stuff going on in my life in list form.

1.  Theatre Stuff:

Well, Bugsy Malone (the other show I directed/choreographed) ended this past week.  It seems like it just flew by!!  I'm super proud of the kids (because as some of you know I was REALLY stressed about the show)....but we managed to pull it off and make it GREAT!! So that's good.

I have one more show that I helped with - my little kids (Mini Stars) doing The Wizard of Oz!!

I have an audition tomorrow night for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.  I feel SO unprepared but I don't feel nervous or anything about it!!  Which is weird.  I'm thinking my nerves will come tomorrow.

I think that's about it with that.

2.  I started my Summer Job on Monday (with Sunfest Day Camps).  It rocks!!  I am having a lot of fun planning everything for the camp.  I can't wait to be with the kids.

3.  I PASSED my first aid (woo!)

4.  My mom and dad are both turning 50 this year and have planned this huge party....with a 50's theme..... poodle skirts and all!!  It's exciting but a lot of work to plan.  Oh well!! Something else to do I suppose!!

5.  Don't you hate it when you start a book, but then you just get so busy you have no time to read it?  Me too.  I say this because now I have time at nights to read my John Lennon Biography which I believe I've had since Christmas.  Yikes.

I think that's all for now....

OH NO!! WAIT WAIT!!  I forgot!!

I went to Disneyland 2 weeks ago.....for 4 days.  It was so spontaneous and SO MUCH FUN!!  I went with Jared and Linnea and Trevor.  Here is a pic from our fun-ness:

Tale as old as time.... (as in....AMANDA UPDATE YOUR BLOG ALREADY!)

CAUTION:  Will be a fairly long blog.  Read with care.

I am truly, very sorry about taking SO LONG to update my life.

My first news, sadly is that, well, Beauty & the Beast is done and over with.

I think this was the first show I choreographed/directed where my heart was bursting with the immense joy of putting on a great show.  The cast did fabulous, the sets team where phenomenal, our props and costumes were a dream come true.

I'm really sad that it has ended, but I am super excited what next year holds in store for this wonderful, talented group!!

I just feel so blessed to be around not only the kids in this theatre group, but the parents as well.  I've never dealt with parents that had so much enthusiasm, and who were so appreciative as the ones involved with this show.  A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who made it possible.

So now onto Bugsy Malone, which plays at the end of May.  Oh, my busy life.

In other news.... since I have not updated in awhile......I GOT THE SUMMER CAMP JOB!!  Weeee!!!  I won't be sitting on my bum all summer!!  WEEEEE!!  I am so excited!!

So.....involved with this, I am currently updating my First Aid, which I am REALLY HAPPY to be doing.  I took my first class today (it's a 2-day course) and it's good to go and get refreshed on the subject.  Especially since I may have to use it one day.

The cool thing is working with dummies and trainer AED's.  That's the fun part.....doing all the practical stuff..... hehehehe.

Now on a totally different subject.....and a question as well....

Have you ever felt completley alone, as though there's no one around you to talk to?

I mean, I'm sure we've all felt this way.  I just feel like there are so many people around me and yet I have no one close to me to talk to when I really need it.  Perhaps it's Murphy's Law?

Anywho....that was just a thought.

Quelle else can I tell you........

I went shopping the other day and bought clothes!!  SUMMER clothes!! and I spent a whole wack of money .....  Yikes.  I don't want to get my Visa Bill next month......

I feel like I have so much to say.....but I think I'll end it here until I know how to verbalize my words and feelings.....

I Guess This is Goodbye, Old Pal

So, as some of you may know from my Facebook status, it's been a pretty rough week for me.

Unfortunately on Monday, we had to put down my dog, Bianca.

I had her since I was 8.

Letting go and realizing that she's never coming back had been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

I know it sounds pretty lame to feel this way about an animal. But she was so much more than that to my family. She was a member of our family.

And now, whenever I leave the house, I have to one to say Goodbye to. I have no one to greet me at the door when I come home.

And that has been the hardest thing about losing her.

Through all of this I've realized I have been truely blessed with having people around me. I mean, both sets of my grandparents are still alive, and although I have had members of family pass away, there has been no one extremley close to me that has passed...(not saying these family members that have passed on weren't important to me....just that I did not connect with them as much.....If that makes sense....)

Bianca was such a good dog. Although she was yappy and ALWAYS asked for food, she rarely gave us any trouble.

Anywho. I'm feeling better, although life has just been.....different.

RIP Bianca. I know you're not hurting anymore and that you're in a better place now.

Don't Worry, Be Happy!

Wahoo! Yippee!! I just finished my last paper of the semester!! Party time!!

...although....it IS 200 words shorter than it's supposed to be. Oh well. I have no more to say. I don't want to make it all wordy and stuff with repetition. WHO WANTS THAT!?

Anyways, I am tres tres tres happy that my two papers are DONE!!

Now all I have is a Math final.....but that's a couple of weeks away. So....woo!!

Haha. That's all. Just had to rejoice a little bit there.

Tootle Tip.
